Decentraland Documentation

These are a series of documents to describe how to do things on the Decentraland (DCL) platform for the beginner and advanced beginner user. It has been divided into three main topics or standards: Development, Governance, and Social. Each standard has multiple benchmarks or learning outcomes that describe specific skills and demonstrable tasks a new user can complete after applying a particular document.

Some benchmarks may naturally cross over from one standard to another one or two standards. One example might be a proposal for a new event in Decentraland. The funding might come from the DCL Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DCL DAO) which involves Governance. The event might have wearables and emotes as prizes or giveaways. Those items fall under the Development standard. Since it will happen at an event, that of course is part of the Social standard.

Development

The creation of anything for Decentraland in any capacity is considered development. Some items created might be wearables, emotes, 3D models, GLBs, scenes, games, nodejs code, experiences, portable experiences, or smart wearables.

Governance

A large number of decisions about Decentraland are handled via the Decentraland Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DCL DAO). Each wallet that holds at least one MANA coin, DCL NAME, or DCL LAND is eligible to vote in the DCL DAO.

Social

A majority of the Decentraland Daily Active Users (DAUs) will encounter the virtual world in this area. Logging in as a guest and checking out a fashion show, gallery opening, or festival is how most spend their time in this open metaverse.

DAO Grant

All of this work is made possible by a grant through the Decentraland DAO. You can read more about it here: Decentral Ed v2.0
