New to the team? Welcome aboard! On this page you will find information to get you oriented and contributing to MEM as quickly as possible.

  • First, say hi to everyone in #general_discussion on Discord. We want to welcome newcomers! If you additionally tell us how you want to contribute to the mod (As a writer, tester, translator, coder, artist, or some combination of these) we can get you set up with the appropriate role(s).

  • Additionally, if you have questions at any time, please ask in Discord! We're happy to help you get started!

  • Next you may want to download the development version of the mod from GitHub. Testers, translators, and coders will need to do this to work effectively. Writers and artists don't necessarily need to use GitHub if they don't want to, but some like to do so. We have a pair of tutorials for this: one for git (which our experts are better able to troubleshoot but which requires the command line) and one for GitHub Desktop (easier to use, particularly for those who prefer to avoid the command line, but harder for experts to troubleshoot). The tutorials are fairly thorough in their explanations; if you want to mostly do it yourself with short summaries answering questions when you get stuck, perhaps try the How Do I...? page instead.

  • If / when you have a GitHub account, @ message the admins with your GitHub username so we can add you to the repository and organization. (Once we've added you, you will have two invitations to accept)

  • Now get started! You're welcome to start with your own idea (if applicable -- this doesn't work for testers and translators), or you can find an existing idea on the issue tracker. We also have a Suggested Tasks page if you are looking for ways to contribute. Talk to us about what you're doing on discord -- to get help, to recruit other team members in different roles to collaborate with you, or just to get us all excited for the awesome event you're making!
