I completely defer to you about this stuff :) So I am good with the change, but CI is not passing yet and also probably needs to be rebased now that we merged the gtk3 patch |

The main advantage is much faster environment installation, both locally and on CI.
Also drop Python 3.8 since it is end of life starting 2024-10.
