1 ‐ Installation

A. Prerequisites

For Windows:

For Mac:

  • Make sure you are using a modern OS system. The steps below were performed using Sonoma 14.0 on a 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro with 32 GB memory.
  • Update to the most current version of Xcode using the App Store. The steps below were performed using Xcode 15.0.1.

B. Unreal Engine

  • Scroll down and select ‘Download now.’

  • Select ‘Download launcher’

  • Make an Epic Games account or login with another method

  • Once logged in, click the ‘Unreal Engine’ tab on the left side

  • Click the ‘Library’ tab at the top

  • Click the yellow plus next to ‘Engine Versions’ and select version which version you would like to install. (Windows users can install 5.1. Mac users should install version 5.3 or later to make it more compatible with Xcode.)

  • Choose a location and install (larger install)
  • May pop up with other resources to install (prerequisites), accept to proceed with installation.
  • You have now successfully installed Unreal Engine and will be able to launch Unreal Engine from the Epic Games launcher to create projects.

C. Cesium Plugin

  • In the Epic Games Launcher, go to the ‘Unreal Engine’ tab on the left side, then ‘Marketplace’ at the top.
  • Search for Cesium in the marketplace

  • Select ‘Cesium for Unreal’, then ‘Install to Engine.’

  • Select the version of Unreal Engine that you’d like to install Cesium to (Should be 5.3 or later for Mac users).
  • You have now successfully installed the Cesium plugin.

D. Visual Studio

  • Open the downloaded executable file and install the Visual Studio Installer.
  • This will automatically install the latest version of VS. Some features/plugins of Unreal Engine may depend on an earlier version of VS. If this is the case, install an older version, such as, VS 2019.

  • Next, we need to add some features so be compatible with Unreal Engine.
  • Select ‘Modify’ on your installed version and check that the following settings are selected:
