The Things Library is based on the fundamental idea that items are categorized into "item types," defining the nature of the item. This categorization involves associated attributes that characterize each specific type of item (aka: thing). For instance, describing an HVAC furnace requires different details than describing a car. For the furnace, it might be important to keep track of the air filter size and when it was last replaced, whereas for the car, tracking the type of oil it requires and the date of the last oil change becomes crucial.
Item types define which attributes can be used to describe the 'thing' where attributes are a set of key-value pairs.
Additionally, every 'thing' can have linked attachments, which are other 'things' with their own item type and key-value attributes. For example, a car could have each maintenance event as an attachment that explains when the maintenance was done, what was done, how much it cost, the odometer reading, a photo of the receipt and other general notes.
