Freezone Configuration

Overview

Freezone is (most of the time at least) a rather valuable addition to any server, allowing any player to join it with no issue. Usually, that helps increase the server's popularity as well as the amount of hilarious messages in the chat - after all it's mostly the newer players gaining access to a fresh gaming space.

However, it is not that simple to make your server Freezone-compliant. Remember, Nadeo invented this.

Register in the Freezone

While this process is extremely trivial, our french friends of course had to make it unreasonably difficult in the last couple of years by NOT updating their security certificates. Due to that, you are NOT able to access the freezone:servers manialink (aka this website) normally on Windows (I'm a Linux user btw). To overcome this obstacle:

  1. WinKey+R
  2. Type in inetcpl.cpl
  3. Make your way into the Advanced tab (the rightmost one)
  4. Find the Security section (bronze lock icon)
  5. Uncheck the Check for server certificate revocation option

After that procedure, you can now visit the manialink freezone:servers and do whatever it wants you to. Pretty sure it's intuitive enough. Obviously be aware that getting your server onto Freezone costs 10000 coppers.

What now?

If the payment went through, you ought to enable the Freezone plugin bundled with the controller. Don't forget to copy the TMWS password you received from the manialink, that is used for authentication!

Also, might want to check whether your server is "compatible" with Freezone rules, those being:

  • The server can not have a number of slots greater than 40
  • The server name must respect the Freezone SERVER_NAME format
  • The server must be public
  • The server must use a plugin that supports Freezone

Of course, you can ignore all of that and feed their server with fake data (that is already done in part). Seriously, they will not ever check that. TMF is more dead than alive.
