found linter and was going to include it in our makefile.. but it has some issues I don't think we want to deal with yet.

The issue is it gets rate limited on GH. I've reported an issue on the project: raviqqe/liche#37
This PR contains some changes based on using the tool to the extent that I could. There are also several bugs filed for things I'm not aware of how to fix.
