Q: Why did you shut down the project/page and most of the online info/resources?

A: This question has also popped up as a comment to an issue I've opened regarding the future of UmlCanvas from its user base's perspective.

Basically it boils down to this:

  • When I started the project in 2009, I needed it myself for some UML related projects I was working on. Today these projects are no longer actively pursued and hence my personal need to continue the development is close to zero.
  • Beyond myself, there hasn't been an active user base at all, so pulling the plug some time ago didn't actually harm anyone ;-)
  • Since 2009 the Javascript scene and especially the canvas element scene has change dramatically. Today numerous great Javascript/Canvas libraries exist that make constructing something like UmlCanvas a lot easier. Back in 2009 we needed to write about everything ourself and had to deal with numerous browser incompatibilities.
