This is the current roadmap for GC Notify. Objectives and timelines are all subject to change. More information about work in progress can be found on the teams agile board.

Current Objectives

Our focus is on scaling the use of text messages, improving notification creation tools, enhancing our continuous security posture, and improving our product reporting.

Reliably scale SMS without the need for human intervention

We've seen growth in the demand from our clients for sending text message notifications. We need to be able to understand this new demand, and scale our infrastructure, UI and operating model to meet these new client needs.

  • Daily and annual limits are automatically enforced.
  • Default limits are revisited quarterly.
  • Our short code is implemented.

Improve notification creation tools so that recipients have a better experience

Increase trust in our notifications and help empower public servants to create a better user experience with their services by providing tools to build and draft better message content, templates and bilingual messages.

Key results

  • Run a Discovery on how we might leverage creation tools and/or other platforms to give end users a better experience.
  • One improvement has been released that helps content creators create better content.
  • Newer message technologies like RCS or WhatsApp are explored.

Upcoming Objectives

  • Allow recipients to unsubscribe Users should be able to unsubscribe from receiving messages from a service. Some services manage lists that the recipient should be removed from.
  • Evaluate sending SMS messages outside of Canada - GC Notify has been designed and tested for sending SMS messages to recipients in Canada, but it is possible to send messages to recipients in other countries. We will investigate the current limitations and evaluate expanding Notify beyond Canada.
  • Improve message quality - Without introducing bottlenecks, make it easy for our clients to compose better messages.
