Welcome to Crisis Connect, our team's innovative solution developed during the Women Who Code Hackathon for Social Good 2023. Tailored for BC's natural disasters, this dynamic platform delivers real-time updates, serving as a vital bridge between affected individuals and indispensable resources. It provides an alternative to conventional government assistance, fostering direct community interactions for personalized, one-on-one assistance.

Natural disasters events are escalating due to global warming, putting pressure on BC relief efforts. In response, our solution integrates data science, UX design, and web development to grant instant access to vital information for BC's affected population. Through in-depth data analysis, our platform provides personalized real-time aid, standing apart from standard government relief initiatives. Our robust web development guarantees a user-friendly interface, fostering direct community connections and empowering users to make informed decisions in crisis situations. This is particularly crucial as public assistance systems can be overwhelmed and might not promptly address the immediate needs arising from such disasters.
Our initiative is to ensure impacted individuals within BC have immediate access to critical information during crises. This empowers them to make well-informed decisions and obtain the urgent support they require.

- Clone this repository
- cd into the cloned directory and install dependencies by running
npm i
- Start the react development server by running
npm start
- Teamwork Insights: We learned the importance of seamless collaboration among data scientists, UX designers, and web developers. Understanding each role and its contribution was key.
- Communication is Crucial: Clear communication became evident, especially during project iterations. Misunderstandings can delay progress, so we emphasized transparency.
- Time Management: Balancing quality work with strict deadlines was challenging. We had to prioritize tasks efficiently to meet our goals.
- We plan to add a reporting function so users can directly report natural disasters they're experiencing.
- We're set to expand the platform's capabilities by introducing a login system, donation transaction form, chat functions, and more essential menu options.
- While our current design is mobile-focused, we're working to translate it into a user-friendly desktop web version.
