I started this PR to make some minor improvements to the example code. After reviewing the HTML I found there was a lot going on.

Remove useless use of cat in a few places
Remove unneeded <span> tags in HTML.
Add -s flag to curl commands to have clean output
Use curl everywhere instead of mixing wget and curl
Use apt-get over apt as the API is considered stable where apt is meant for interactive terminals with a human at the other end.
