Notes from SDM Meeting (10.31.2023)

Purpose of Meeting

To address concerns that the Maxent model (under ENMevaluate()) may be incorrectly predicting the species distribution of Centris pallida.

Summary

  • Summary of research question.
  • Went over recent approaches to project.
  • Using observation data from GBIF.
  • Using predicted climate data from CMIP5.
  • First modeling attempt was using dismo::maxent()
  • Started working with only bee data to save time and repetitiveness. Will resume running host plants through Maxent model when a good one has been settled on.
  • Second modeling attempt was using ENMevaluate(). Results were presented and rose concern about the predictions being biologically reasonable.
  • Discussed approaches that might help make a more appropriate model.
  • Range maps of species for better reasoning on why we cropped the data to those points.
  • Including elevation (Digital Elevation Models) / land cover data (maybe, if really needed).
  • Using CMIP6 data (newer version of climate data, but needs poking around. May need to use Jeff's data from Swallowtail project).
  • Looking through bioclimatic / elevation variable relationship to suitability plots. Will help determine which to keep/remove from model.
  • Also to do.
  • Prepare summary and table of variable, variable ranking, and plot descriptions for project group. And probably for paper supplement.
  • Start a draft of manuscript.
