gh-pages branch does exist

The gh-pages branch does not exist in this template repository. Because of this, the user can not follow step 5 under deployment. The .github/workflows directory is not populated with a pages.yml file.

The documentation either needs to make it clear that this is a necessary step only for sphinx or we need to change the default behavior to use sphinx.

I'll try to go over the process with a clean installation. I'll update this issue accordingly.
