Plan for Device Monitors Project

This article will be updated as I develop the project.

Definitions

Monitor

• A device monitor is an object or a widget that monitors a device status.
• I want it to be modular, i.e., we can select the interested status values to monitor, e.g., frequency, amplitude, phase, etc. of a DDS.
• Moreover, there can be multiple monitors for a single device.
• In contrast, if we want a single widget to monitor multiple devices, it should be implemented using composition of multiple monitors.
• Note that monitors do not modify the device status.
• One of the key features of monitors is to update the displayed values whenever the actual values are changed.

Goals

• TTL monitor: Display the current ARTIQ TTL input/output status
• DDS monitor: Display the current ARTIQ DDS output status
• DAC monitor: Display the current ARTIQ DAC output status
• Polymorphism: Implement the same features for non-ARTIQ devices. Moreover, design a common interface for monitors, so it can be extended to variety of use.

Non-goals

• Device controllers: Modify the device status.

TTL monitor

In order to monitor (and adjust) the TTL outputs, CommMonInj seems helpful.

Why don't we make all the notes on this GitHub repo?
I think writing the same information in two places is not a good idea.
I thought the Obsidian was for the actual experiment notes for the hardware tests.

I misunderstood that you write everything down to the Obsidian.

Then, as your suggestion, let's write only the experiement notes in the Obsidian!
