We don't want to draw details too small, it makes things look ugly when resized to a small icon.

Black background or white? Both of these are presented in 256 x 256 pixel format.

Filled background is not advised for ubuntu icons; but with a transparent background you have to make sure everything is big enough so that it looks good.
