merlin error reporting can be excessive

The merlin red squiggles can take up the entire code page making it very hard to read/edit code. One example is shown in the image below, where if you edit a signature, the entire module that's adhering to the signature lights up in red. I find myself trying to quickly make some temporary code change to get the red to go away. It'd be nice if we could toggle merlin error reporting on/off quickly.
