As the title says, it makes no difference if the Compact Mode is enabled or not. The effect is that it is always off.

The downside is of course that the screen gets cluttered way too quickly. For me it only takes 4 players to fill the entire space. See picture.

IIRC, it was still working on GNOME 45 and prior.
