Just parking this here for future consideration...
All too often we are unable to find gazetteer matches because we don't know precisely how place-names are recorded in the gazetteers. I know that there is some fuzziness to the matching, but this is proving inadequate in our use case.
When we go to the Map Search screen (image 1), we would like to have the option to be shown the closest 50 gazetteered points as measured from the centre of the map, as in my experimental set-up (image 2).
We would also like the option to right-click a point on the map to record its coordinates in the Annotation's Notes facet. These coordinates could then be used to programmatically create entries in a new pseudo-authority gazetteer.
