Some colleagues of ours at INBO have reached out looking for a home for a pretty neat function. They've got a workflow to pull meteorological data for any set of geospatial-temporal data points. It depends on the worldmet R package to pull global meteorological data from as far back as the 1900s.

They're looking to house it within a package for telemetry users to allow them to easily benefit from the functionality but also to have additional maintainers working to extend and improve it.

Additionally: Looking more closely at how worldmet pulls data from NOAA/NCEI, there are other potentially interesting data layers to query in the same way. An extension to this functionality might be possible as well that would yield not just meteorological data but SST / ocean colour / ocean chemistry data for shorter timescales. Might be too far a consideration for this moment, but it's intriguing!
