Backup feature #182
Comments
Beside backup, option to import it also would be important. In addition to that it would be great if there was an option to encrypt it. |
This shouldn't even need to exist, I thought Tox was going to sync contact lists and chat logs across automatically some how. It would not be user friendly to have to export, transfer to another device, then finally import it. |
@dcharles525 The purpose of it wouldn't be to sync across devices, but to have ability to simply backup it to some device that would serve as backup (that's at least how I understand it). |
Added a export/backup function for the tox data file, can't do much about encryption as there is no client independent way to do that right now. |
Since the only way to access your account, is the private key, which is not even publicly available, it'd be nice to have an option to perform backup/recover of your account/private key, I know this key is available in data file in ~/.config/tox (ubuntu), but not everyone would know that, a common end-user would be upset to find his profile to disapear, so what i'd like to ask is ability to backup/export your data file which contains this vital information.
