BadgeKit Glossary
Common words and jargon-bombs.
Assessor - A person who checks a person's evidence to see if it meets a badge's criteria. They sometimes use a rubric.
Backpack - A tool used to collect, organize, and show earned badges.
Criteria - A list of things a person must show as evidence to earn a badge.
Earner - A person who shows evidence to earn a badge.
Evidence - Links, text, images, and other media used by a person to show that they meet the criteria for a Badge.
Issuer - Person or organization that issues a badge to a person who has earned it. The issuer sometimes later validates that the badge was earned. Sometimes the issuer is also the assessor.
Metadata - Information attached to a badge that names it, describes it, and links to other important details like the badge's criteria and issuer.
Rubric - A tool to help different people consistently check evidence to see if it meets a badge's criteria.
System - A collection of badges, criteria, rubrics, etcetera, connected by a plan that yields a sum greater than its parts.
Validate - Confirmation that a specific badge was issued to a specific person.
