I love the icon overlay that was introduced; be it showing the image type or the website for post thumbnails. What this issue is about is finding a way to prevent the overlay from blocking out image/thumbnail content.

One solution that I can think of is to not modify the image/thumbnail to add the overlay, but to place the pill below the image (but above the website title if a link post). When tapping the image, the same should happen. Right now I have to tap the image, then I have to tap the triple dot button to view the image. For link posts, I have not found a workaround (and a lot of websites use a thumbnail that isn't in the post at all).

For images you can remove the overlay by turning off Developer Mode under Settings -> Advanced.
For link posts it might be worth us considering other design options that don't involve the pill 🤔 Though I don't think it's as much of an annoyance for link posts as it is for image posts (with dev mode turned on) - the link image is much less likely to contain text that you'd want to read. At the moment, it isn't even possible to open link post images in the image viewer.
