Welcome to the VirtualDesktopXR wiki!

This program is an implementation of the OpenXR standard for Virtual Desktop on Windows. It allows you to run OpenXR applications without SteamVR.

What if I use Oculus Link?

You are covered too! VirtualDesktopXR detects whether the Virtual Desktop Streamer is running and connected and if it is not, VirtualDesktopXR will attempt to use Oculus Link instead!

Setup

Download & installation

Release is not public yet! Thank you for your patience! This page is only available for private beta testers.

Troubleshooting

  1. Make sure that VirtualDesktopXR is set as your OpenXR runtime.

Download the XR Runtime Picker (direct download link).

Find the 'VirtualDesktop-OpenXR' runtime and click 'Make active'.

  1. Make sure your application uses OpenXR! Supporting OpenXR is a decision made by the developers of each application. It is not something you can force an application to do if that application was not developed for OpenXR.

There is no universal way to tell whether an application can use OpenXR, see the Application Compatibility page for more information.

  1. If none of the above helped, you can file an issue or join our Discord to ask for support.

IF YOU DON'T INCLUDE YOUR LOG FILE AND A CLEAR EXPLANATION OF YOUR ISSUE, YOUR MESSAGE WILL BE IGNORED.

Log file can be found under the %LocalAppData%\virtualdesktop-openxr folder: you can copy this string into your File Explorer to be taken directly to the correct folder!

Removal

You can use 'Add or remove programs' (available from the Start Menu) and uninstall 'Virtual Desktop OpenXR' from there.
