Well, very good question. ODF standardization aims to not break things between versions. So you can expect any 1.0 document to be ok on 1.2 reader. Most changes are about normative should/must status, bug fixing, and of course adding new features. However, most graphical tools have different interpretations on some aspects (for example as regards headers, styles, ...). So my main concern is about interoperability with existing tools... As regards Lpod, current version does not check version compliancy, and understand some 1.2 advanced tags (open formula meta tag, ..). But: lpod is clearly far behind for actually manage all the tags (597 tags for ODF 1.2). By default, it can read all tags, but many methods are missing.
In brief:
ODF 1.2, partial implementation compatible with 1.0 and 1.1
nota : in a separate research project, I do implement some compliancy test about ODF versions (tags allowance checking for children), and advanced change tracking management, but dont expect public release until end of year.

As is known to all, ODF have versions 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2
LibreOffice/OpenOffice also come with "ODF 1.2 Extended", which I haven't fully understood why we need such option.
