Success metrics may not be working correctly

With no factual basis I believe I have seen the success metrics simply not return 0 when endpoints are unreachable for various networking issues. Haven't spent the time reproducing this but feel it is worth an issue to write detailed tests or otherwise confirm the success metrics return 0 when the endpoint is in any way not reachable
