Acceptance

  • New 'Get Involved' page added to Second Renaissance site
  • Update the 'Get Involved' page at https://lifeitself.org/get-involved alongside the 'Community' and 'Research' pages
  • Add 'get involved' guidance to the Discord, e.g. link to the 'get involved' page.

Situation

We want people with the right skills and motivation to get involved and contribute to LI and 2R. This helps both to achieve specific goals and to build the community.

Problem

The Second Renaissance site currently has no 'get involved' page, instead people go straight to the Discord. The Discord itself has no clear guidance on how to get involved.

On the Life itself site, the situation is much better, but the 'get involved' page (as distinct from the community page) could use updating.

In addition it is unclear to newcomers what the distinction is between Life Itself and Second Renaissance and which group they should seek to get involved with.

Currently some newcomers may feel unsure about whether and how they can contribute. We may be missing out on valuable contributions and opportunities to build the community as a result.

Proposed solution

We should create clear guidance for newcomers on the various different ways in which they can 'get involved'. This guidance should be consistent and coherent across 2R and LI.

I have drafted some wording for comment here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PsMd_BEvvd5d5Jxeofh9ph8oNm5DhoavIeSXtktEroI/edit?usp=sharing

Once wording has been agreed, it should be added to pages listed above (Acceptance section)

I agree overall but IMO / IME the actual set of potential contributors is smaller than one thinks - a fair number of folks find their way to LI get involved whatsapp ... and yet the number who then do something is small (not unusual and no critique of people).

IMO more important would be having a (single) clear obvious things to contribute to ...

Overall, it would be worth doing a small bit of diagnosis of the what the goal is and what we think the issue is ...

@JonahWilberg i've reviewed and this looks great. Perhaps if @laurenwigmore does a quick once-over and then we action.
