Allow un-tiled PNG overlay

Sometimes I have geographic data that I'd like to show on a map that isn't from a tile service. In those cases, I'd like just to throw a png onto the map in the right place.

The analogous feature in leaflet is ImageOverlay

That sounds like a pretty useful idea to me. I'd love it if you worked on it.
I'm imagining you'd make the API similar to the map marker API. What do you think?
