As far as I see deu_frak is used for Tesseract OCR of historical prints. There exist other models which typically achieve better results. Maybe you want to try those.

Ohh, great idea! I was not aware of those. We will definitely use them to further improve the OCR-part (which currently still is the weak-spot)

Don't hesitate to contact me if there remain more issues for the OCR part, for example flyers with bad OCR results.
