Wrong term::cols() on really narrow terminal #996

Issue summary

When you resize the terminal so it's 2 characters wide, the cols return 1000 and the whole greetings is visible.

Expected behavior

number of lines should be 2 and the greeting should be empty

Open repro

Additional notes

it seems that the CMD overflows the cursor is hidden behind the cursor if it's showing up
