<p>
Esther Jang is a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Washington (UW) with primary research interests in connectivity, appropriate technology, and human-centered design for and with low-income populations in developing regions. She graduated from MIT in 2016 with a BSc in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a MS in Networks and Communications. In the past four years, she has worked on the Village Base Station (VBTS) project with the University of the Philippines (UP) deploying community cellular networks (CCNs) in rural areas, and on wireless connectivity for rural schools in Tanzania. She has experience in user-centered and collaborative design through working in assistive technology. Through this project she hopes to combine her interests in network connectivity and technology education in resource-constrained settings.

<p>
Matthew Johnson is a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Washington (UW). He studies the intricacies of building and managing community networks, with a current focus on community cellular networks taking advantage of LTE and next generation backhaul. In the past he worked in the private sector building software defined radio software for mobile ad hoc mesh networks and interned with [Google] X's project Loon. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rice University.

<p>
Mia is an electronics engineer for various government-funded projects since 2012. Armed with her experience in testing, development, and deployment of Bi-directional amplifiers and Low-noise amplifiers, she is currently in charge of the GSM Base Station (BTS) Hardware development efforts of the Village Base Station Project. She has a knack for tinkering things, finding out how devices work, and exploring methods on how to improve device performance. Outside her work responsibilities, she is also an aspiring events host and a licensed financial advisor.
</p>
<p>
Mia is a homegrown “uragon” engineer who hails from Pili, Camarines Sur. She is a product of the Pisay Bicol Batch 07 before entering UP Diliman to earn her BS ECE degree. She is currently working on her MS EE degree, also in UP Diliman.
</p>
<p>
She has also worked as a tutor for high school and college students, making her comfortable in large lectures and one-on-one coaching.

Philip is a PhD student in the ICTD group at the University of Washington. His interests span global justice in technology development, rural connectivity, payment systems, and theory of computation. Previously, at United Nations University Institute on Computing and Society, he worked on social media for election monitoring in Ghana. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Math from Carnegie Mellon University.

Ronel is a field deployment engineer for various government-funded projects since 2012. Over the course of his upstart career, he has worked with various communities in deploying context-appropriate connectivity solutions. He’s currently involved in the community and cooperative engagement efforts of the Village Base Station Project, an avenue where his interests in grassroots communication are honed. Outside of work, he is also active in youth development programs in his home province of Laguna. He spends his spare time climbing mountains and playing badminton. He also loves to capture the beauty of the outdoors as an aspiring photographer.
</p>
<p>
Ronel graduated with a degree of BS ECE from UP Diliman in 2012, and is currently working towards his ME EE degree, also in UP Diliman.
</p>
<p>
He has experience in helping high school students with their electronics and instrumentation-related projects, particularly with Arduino.

Thessa is an electronics engineer for various government-funded projects since 2012, where she has been tasked with the design, development, and testing of antennas for various applications. She is currently the Training Lead for the Village Base Station Project, exhibiting her skills in teaching technical topics for non-technical audiences. She is also engaged in an online business, showcasing her creative side. Some of her products have appealed to an international clientele in the US and Australia.
</p>
<p>
Thessa graduated with a degree of BS ECE from UP Diliman in 2012. She has also attended classes to hone her craft in dancing and calligraphy.
</p>
<p>
She has worked as a tutor for high school and college students during her undergraduate years, making her comfortable in large lectures or one-on-one coaching.

Flip is an electronics engineer for various government-funded projects since 2014, but has had prior technical experience as a student apprentice for research programs since 2007. He currently works as a field deployment support engineer for the Village Base Station Project.

Flip earned his BS ECE degree in 2009 and MS Electrical Engg in 2014, both from UP Diliman
</p>
<p>
He has been a part-time college entrance exam review lecturer and learning module content creator and developer. He has also experience in teaching basic instrumentation concepts to high school and college students.

<a href='https://kurti.sh'>Dr. Kurtis Heimerl</a>
is an assistant professor in the University of Washington's Computer Science and Engineering department. His research interests span
<a href='http://ictd.cs.washington.edu/'>information and communication technologies and development (ICTD)</a>,
HCI, networks, and systems. He was recognized by MIT Technology Review with a TR35 Award in 2014 for his work on The Village Base Station (VBTS): locally owned and operated cellular networks. After building the one of the first community cellular networks in a small village in Papua, Indonesia in 2013, Kurtis co-founded a startup company, Endaga, to commercialize the technology. Endaga joined Facebook in 2015.

Claire Barela is a researcher and senior lecturer at the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute, University of the Philippines- Diliman. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering in 2011 and her Master's in Electrical Engineering in 2014 from the same institution. She is currently leading the Village Base Station team with the Wireless Communications Engineering Lab (WCEL) at UP, which aims to put up several community cellular networks in remote and unserved barangays in Aurora, Philippines. Her past work has centered on rural connectivity and communications in the Philippines, with applications such as Internet access for public elementary schools and emergency communications for disaster response.
