errors with 5g SA deployment using sa-deploy.yaml

I have been looking at your docker solution. when i start core services, as per your instructions, i get errors with configuration in SMF and UPF. see below, any suggestions?

This clearly shows that something was changed in configuration file which is incorrect

hi yes sorry. my mistake. for some reason the ue ipv4 addresses were wiped off! its been working since. does your solution work with dockers ok? i mean all sip services such as kamailio rtp get traffic and you have tested it with 2 phones?

What sims did you use? I think sysmocom gas to be programmed and IMS files changed prior we use VoLTE!

I typically use the below command with pySim to program the Sysmocom SIM cards

i will try that shortly. i have got sysmoISIM-SJA5-s17 with I believe default MCC 999 and MNC 70. They also sent some k, IMSI, OP values via emails. Can we keep the MCC, MNC, IMSI, k, OP values as they send or do they need to be changed, esp MCC and MNC to 001 and 01? Thanks

You can use the default PLMN values. But 999 70 is a private network PLMN and using that may result in some restrictions on the phone to connect to certain NR bands. For example, while using 999 70 iPhones in USA are allowed to attach to limited NR bands which are reserved for private networks.

On the other hand 001 01 is a test network PLMN, where the device is allowed to attach to NR bands reserved for public networks

on the server, I already have fully followed your instructions last night and achieved following. Two phones (samsung A35 and Alcatel 5002u) connected. I get messaged in mme that 2 UEs are connected. I beleive in smf/upf i saw ips being assigned to these two. I did not establish if UEs were successfully registering though! Do we need any changes in devices for registration to be successful. I think it is a pre-requisite before call can take place! When I used kamailio directly with linphone in the past, registered users will appear in 'Location' table via usrloc module i believe in Kamailio.. in this setup, which database/table do the registered devices live? no, if the MNC is of two digits a zero gets appended at the start for the domain. Therefore, for MNC 01, the IMS domain is ims.mnc001.mcc001.3gppnetwork.org

both phones are on ims during call. Are you suggesting one phone is not? from the log file, is there anything you are finding totally out of order? What i am trying to establish if we have done everything you expect for this docker solution to work. Does your solution involve UA devices to be registered in some database such as mysql which is the case when we run kamailio and rtpengine! Before call, usually registration needs to be completed from my experience. What do you think I should do as I have to show demo to my boss on Friday!

if you want to try 5G then I would suggest giving exp_5g_ims_physs branch. It has support for VoNR calling with QoS

I dont think with just an antenna you would be able to achieve 2km range. Rather you would need some amplifiers, duplexers etc, but I am not knowledgeable in these aspects. With just antenna you could probably achieve around 200meter i think (max I tested was 50meters)

you mean power amplifiers! an engineer of mine wants to use sdr with analog 9361 to develop a repeater. so even at 200m, we pick the signal and broadcast after passing through sdr. i am not sure if it will work! is there a good telecom book on what system components are used to make up the system!

i started trying your exp_5g_ims_pyhss. it did not have grafana username and password so initially docker compose file won't start containers. then i compared with the master and added grafana settings similar to master branch. Everything works and phone connects over 5G. i dont have another 5g phone so cant test the call. but as i was streaming video on youtube, i found it will repeatedly disconnect. attached are the amf logs! any ideas?

It should work on any device. On 5g router i doubt there is IMS, so just internet APN should be enough

changing PLMN in .env and running it should get your network deployed for that PLMN and should work right out of the box. I am not sure what you mean by "as stable as 001 01"

I will try that and let you know how i get on! I do have to support a trial in an environment where 5G core server can only be accessed by one and the first gnb. Its like underground tunnel. If I attach multiple gnbs lets say 200m from each using usrp. Then will the subsequent gnbs automatically pick 5g signal from previous? I am hoping that way we can extend the range in tunnel!

Let's picture an underground tunnel where we have a 5G core server positioned at the tunnel entrance, connected to a gNB. The challenge is to propagate the signal further down the tunnel since the first gNB will only cover a limited distance based on its line-of-sight (LOS) and range.

Now, unlike conventional setups where each gNB directly connects to the 5G core, the next gNB in our tunnel scenario might be too far to establish a direct link. However, as long as any gNB remains within range of an existing 5G signal, it should still attach to the core. This suggests that if the tunnel has a continuous curve, whether left or right, placing a gNB at strategic corners where it maintains LOS with the previous gNB could effectively extend coverage.

As the signal propagates further down the tunnel, each subsequent gNB essentially rebroadcasts the 5G signal, potentially creating an effect similar to amplification. This concept aligns with "base station relaying," where a secondary base station extends coverage by using the primary BS’s signal as its backhaul—essentially an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) setup.

Does this approach make sense

or alternatively is it viable to use an sdr such as bladerf to acquire weak 5g then amplify either in 9361 or fpga and retransmit. And run this as embedded firmware in FPGA without a OS! can matlab 5g toolbox be of any use you think? a friend of mine has gone a license!

I am going to do something interesting now. I will reduce 5g frequency to see if i can get more range. My antennas do 2.5 to 2.7 ghz.. so i am thinking if i adjust downlink ARFCN and change to band 7 then i might get away at low frequency and still running 5G!
I am calculating arfcn as dl_arfcn=(Frequency (MHz)−2620)×10+524000.. this will give value 522000 when frequency is 2600 hz. And modify your gnb.yaml as show below.. anything else you believe will help changing within your docker_fgs setup?

so i recenlty streamed a video and there was notable latency in bi-directional voice in video and video updates in each end. I though 5g was good with this? anyway, i have just a generic setup i.e. your docker_open5gs, usrpb210 and standard NR N78/N77 band antennas. i heard a lot about prioritizing, slicing etc to improve this. Do you have any suggestions?
