So, I'm seeing some references to .deb files.

Does this mean Ubuntu can be comprised? Any idea what the method of attack is?

The .deb files seems to be used for Ubuntu/Debian as part of the 'melting process' in core/scripts/rcs-core.rb.

This is disturbing. I read an article stating a lot of their exploits have involved embedding a malicious Adobe Flash file in a Microsoft Word doc. I didn't think the Linux permissions system would allow such a breach. They also claim to be able to hack BlackBerry. I wonder if that includes the new *nix-based platform.

It is indeed. Their knowledge base says that they focus on Debian, Ubuntu, Mageia, Mint, and Fedora for Linux distros.
