When using pipe "|" characters in the firmware errorbuf it gets displayed as an O-umlaut "Ö" on the display.

The pipe character seems to be able to be used by escaping a backslash. "\"

The backslash isn't displayed with "\\" nor "\"

Is this somehow related to #1040?

Most likely. I didn't get any errors in building or flashing though.
