I'm looking into GRUP for events in the post-facebook era, but I think a registration would stop people from responding. How about non-anonymous responses requiring email, but sending a unique user link? Possibly with an expiry. |

Hey @jswetzen , thanks a lot for your comment. If I understand correctly, you'd like to invite anonymous users to single events without them having to create an account, is that right? Just to clarify, GRUP comprises sets of events in groups. First, a user creates a group (admin) and invites people (signed up or not) to that group. Then, the admin can create events in the group and invitees can respond to those events. If you wanted to invite anonymous users to a single event, currently you'd have to create one group with a single event. Then, you'd invite anonymous users to that group. Right now, the admin needs to manage the responses for all those anonymous users (we called them "guests"). To understand your suggestion about the invite link, I'd like to know a bit more about your use case. Is the idea of this link for the invitee to respond to the event without having to sign up at all? I am asking because if the person responding is not registered in the app, they'll need to get an invite link every time they have to respond. This might seem obvious for single events, but it gets a bit more complicated for recurring events. What if the person can attend tomorrow's lunch, but they cannot attend the day after? On the other hand, does the admin know about all guests beforehand, or do you want to give out a single link so that anyone who has it can self register? |

I wrote without actually trying the app, went to sign up now. No OTP on email I'm afraid, but text message worked. Will try the anonymous users in group. |

Did you try to sign up with a Proton email by any chance? I also faced some issues in my initial tests, must be something from our Sendgrid setup... I need to figure it out. As for your question, I read just today about Apple releasing their new Invites app1 that seems very much in the same space, and I also know of Partiful2 which is a similar free app (although not open source I think) Is this the kind of app you're after? If so, I'd love to evolve GRUP to cover those scenarios and offer a open source alternative to them! Footnotes |

Moving #18 here.
We believe there would be some value in being able to use GRUP without signing up, at least initially.
This would be useful in at least 2 scenarios:
Trying out the app
Hitting a registration wall isn’t ideal. Letting users explore the app before signing up could make onboarding smoother.
What actions should an anonymous user be able to take, especially if they’re not creating a group?
Replying to a single event
Guests replying to a single event shouldn’t need to sign up. For example, hosting a barbecue and tracking RSVPs is simpler with a reusable invite code that allows anonymous replies.
It would be easier if there was an invite code that may be reused by all participants, and that would allow anonymous replies too.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
