Design initial prototype

Goal

The initial prototype should combine with (a new version of) the mainboard to implement a portable platform with all the essential elements of the planned handheld platform. Many elements of the design will be unrefined but will serve as a minimum viable product. The form factor of this initial version may be large and unwieldy, but it will have some tactile controls and a battery necessary to experiment with portable operation.

Preparation

• Acquire sample displays
• Select and acquire application processor development board
• Select/plan tactile controls
• Select LiPo charger IC and battery

Schematic

• Create or find schematic symbol for application processor
• Create or find schematic symbol for display connector
• Create or find schematic symbol for PMIC
• Create or find schematic symbol for audio codec
• Design power supply section
• Design application processor section, including RAM and storage
• Design interface to mainboard
• Design application processor debug interfaces
• Design audio section
• Design tactile controls
• Design LiPo charger

Layout

• Create or find footprint for application processor
• Create or find footprint for display connector
• Create or find footprint for PMIC
• Create or find footprint for audio codec
• Lay out PCB
