Kanji show up in dot-matrix road signs and shop signs, older dot-matrix LCD displays (still present in many devices) and in retro games using pixel fonts that don’t really resemble any of the current font options that closely. As a result, I have real trouble making out even kanji I should know. As I’m on iOS when I’m doing reviews, I don’t have the option to install custom fonts. Would it be possible to add a font that emulates a low-resolution dot-matrix display (free options do seem to be available) to make it easy to practice this?
I assume the weighting of the default fonts is due to calligraphic usage in shop signage and suchlike, which is more common, but dot-matrix displays aren’t extinct yet.
