Trouble with numbering the plot captions

I tried running the example at

The trouble is that, when I render it, I do not get the same output. In particular, I get a word file where the figures and tables are not numbered.
The same applies when I run the example here

I wonder what the problem may be.

I could not. The document opened in either word on Windows or in libreoffice on Debian linux never asked me to update anything. So I am stuck with a document with captions without numbers. What to do?

are you working with Word? Why did you open 3 different issues during the same day on SO, and here?

Apologies, but this was getting a pressing issue for me. The SO issues are different. I first of all was hoping to get a way to move the caption and if bookdown gave me that option, that would have been enough. After sorting that out, there was the issue of numbering tables and figures. Since I generate a large number of word documents, is there any way to bypass the need to manually update the computed fields?

Yes, you can read my previous answers: "See also https://github.com/ardata-fr/doconv#update-word-fields-and-toc". The following R command in bold should help you : ?doconv::docx_update()

But on my windows platform that just opens up the windows settings and does nothing to the word document....

Please do not iterate, the purpose of the package is to facilitate Word production with R Markdown. It is not intended to be a support for the use of MS Word that goes beyond what we can offer.
