Build and deploy an Istio WebAssembly using Rust

In this hands-on lab, we will build an Envoy WebAssembly using Rust – starting with a basic example and building to a complete solution. We will deploy and test the plug-in with an Istio sidecar running in a Kubernetes cluster hosted in GitHub Codespaces.

Learning Objectives

• Understand the inner-loop developer setup on Codespaces
• Understand the Envoy WebAssembly model
• Understand how to implement a plug-in using Rust
• Understand the Istio WebAssembly deployment model
• Deploy and test in Kubernetes using an Istio sidecar

Prerequisites:

• A modern browser (Edge, Chrome, Safari, FireFox)
• GitHub ID with 2FA enabled
