How exactly does this extension work? We just need to paste to "app" folder into our own and that's it?

I'd like to know as well. Uploading app / amp I'm sure, but why is the root htaccess there? Ours is heavily edited so overwriting that is no option. Anything specific that needs to be taken into account?
