There have been cases where tools connected to the LRS were 'down'; the resulting server errors can be frustrating for users. Investigate whether the LRS could monitor the readiness of all tools. At regular intervals it could 'ping' all tools. When errors are encountered, the LRS sends an automated email to the tool maintainer. For inspiration, see StatusCake.
Ideally, tools that are 'down' should not been shown as applicable tool (or they should have a flag 'down' attached to them).

I have proposed an Icinga-based solution to the Leipzig monitoring team (Nathanael and Alexander). To be followed up after the migration to Icinga2 web.

The first implementation is ready. All tools from the Tool Registry are now monitored with Icinga2. Needs some further inspection, to see if everything works as expected.
