After upgrading to ubuntu 17.10, elitech-datareader did not work. I assume this is because ubuntu changed the python default from 2 to 3. After reinstalling elitech-datareader, it was working again.
This is only a note for those with the same experience.

Which version ubuntu was been installed before upgrade?

I upgraded from 17.04 t o17.10.
