Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Currently the dimension is of the data is d+1 because of the commonly used channel that we have in image processing.
However this does not fit well into the picture for other datasets and as we only have gray values, it should be removed to streamline the code.

Remove additional dimension.
