Steps to Reproduce

I was asked about this by an org to whom I had recommended they adopt a domain name handle, now that old handles are reserved to prevent impersonation.

In the example they sent over, they wanted to know why the first link below works, and the second link does not.

https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:2ood4k4wojq5jku2zl3myqco/post/3lemapfkjuk24

https://bsky.app/profile/spokeslothian.bsky.social/post/3ld4tjxz2ws23

As I pointed out, if they run a find and replace in their website CMS for https://bsky.app/profile/spokeslothian.bsky.social/ and replace with their new handle https://bsky.app/profile/spokes.org.uk/ then their links will work.

My question is - if did:plc links and new handle links work, is it not a bug that old handle links don't work also?

What are the ramifications now that old handles are reserved? Currently the second link in their examples results in 'post not found', for a post that does exist. To me, without the required complex platform knowledge, this would be a good case for a simple 301 URL redirect to posts under the new handle...
