Dynamic queries

Hi community
I am trying to make a dynamic query with an argument declared in the frontmatter of the note where query is being made but do not seem to be able to make it work.

In short, i am constituting a repo of books i have read/want to read and have already a 'rigid' query structure (by language/type/etc...) but would like a to create a dynamic query to quickly draw a table according to a predefined variable.
I have tried to use the query note's frontmatter in that way:
Where Author = this.file.QueryTerm and other variations thereof but does not seem to work. Is it possible to use the query file fromtmatter to dynamically create queries?

@melbv Can you explain what you mean by "getting obsidian/daatview to recalculate code blocks from preview mode"? Dataview views refresh on any file change by default.

You may also want to take a look at #515 (comment) if you'd like to reuse queries in different notes.

At the end i am looking at JS...
but I have never used the language and am not sure how to declare multiple inputs (or use those inputs in the code). Would you mind just giving me a quick example of how to declare those inputs?

See how in that comment there's

```

That second object ({tag: "important"}) is the input. You can see tag being pulled from input within the script by doing

let {tag} = input

Let's say you wanted to pass a date and name in, you'd do something like:

  name: "Johnny",
  date: DateTime.fromISO("2021-07-09")
}
dv.view("dv-views/tasks-with-tag", input)
```

then in your script:

let {name, date} = input
console.log(name, date)

Thanks @sheeley - i have fiddled a little and have found a few tutorials/examples to help me grasp variable/input declaration.
To come back to your example, i did not know you could characterise inputs separately in the dataviewjs block. I use the following declaration that works quite well for me:

dv.view("path/to/jsfile", {name: "Johnny", date: DateTime.fromISO("2021-07-09")})

As for the actual JS code, and because you got me to try JS, i paste it below if it can be useful. It is probably very lengthy but is my first attempt at JS and it seems to be working...

Hi @blacksmithgu I meant what you understood - i had to relaunch obsidian for the table refresh (or recalculation) to work properly upon changing arguments; so the workflow is now working. It is quite neat!! Thanks again for the amazing plugin!! 13 Oct 2021, 06:55 by ***@***.***:
