wc

The "wc" command stand for "word count" and does just that and more. The "wc" command has one parameter, the file you would like to search, but you can add additional files to be searched at the same time and the information will be displayed is such a way that you can see the specifics of each file as well as the totals of each file added together. The "wc" command will output the newline count, the word count and the byte count in that order.
