Debian packaging help

Hi folks,

As some of you know, both me and David have been looking at getting avocado into Debian and then into Ubuntu. We're almost there but there are 2 items that we need assistance on, to get resolved moving forward.

Once these issues are resolve here, I can get the work to get the initial package in, and work towards regular updates into Debian.

One of the aspects of debian packaging, is using the lintian command to verify the package acceptance, and any issues that may arise. With the initial work that we have done, the following link https://dpaste.com/CFTKWW6QP

• no-manual-page
• package-contains-documentation-outside-usr-share-doc
• uses-deprecated-python-stdlib distutils (deprecated in Python 3.10, removed in Python 3.12)
• package-does-not-install-example
• repeated-path-segment avocado
• application-in-library-section python
• executable-in-usr-lib
• library-package-name-for-application

It would be great to get some feedback/help on this, and then we can get this package into Debian and have the testing framework for our project sos to be effective in Debian and Ubuntu as well.

If it is preferred, I can create an issue for each of these items, then each can be tackled individually?

Hi @arif-ali, thank you for your work on Debian packaging, we are definitely willing to help with this effort. But as you said, I think it would be better if you could create separated issues for each of these items, and we can discuss them separately. Thank you.
