It seems like AWS Lambda would be a useful and low-cost way to run this service for many developers (although not Cadasta Foundation given its 300 second max-lifetime). It would be interesting to have some documentation on how this could be most-easily done.

15 minutes is still too short for certain users. @Cadasta (where I worked when this was first built) targeted users in the developing world, where internet access can be poor. For that reason, a lambda alternative was necessary. For many use cases, lambda would likely be an appropriate choice.
