'Translate' button at category landing page #11198
Comments
You can, click on the pencil icon next to the language at https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/antennapod/website/#languages. This will bring you to the translating interface at https://hosted.weblate.org/translate/antennapod/website/-/cs/?q=state:%3Ctranslated Where would you expect to see the additional button? |
Hi @nijel,
Indeed, that's what I told them also. But apparently it's not obvious enough for infrequent users (it's 'hidden' behind the languages tab i.e. one click away, and I'm not sure an icon that usually indicates 'edit' also carries the meaning 'translate').
I think the best/least worst place is in the menu bar, right-aligned (left or right from the (not) watching option of logged-in users). |

The problem is that you need to select a language to translate, that's why the link is only on place with languages. Maybe making the languages tab default one? |

Describe the problem
I recently enabled categories to bundle our components into 'Website' and 'App store listing' categories.
Apparently (and I agree) it's not very clear how/easy to start translating a component. From AntennaPod/antennapod.github.io#325 (comment):
Describe the solution you would like
Introduce a clear 'Translate' button on:
Clicking on the Translate button, opens the first untranslated string in that category/component for the user's "Translated languages" language (if only 1) or a list of languages from which the user needs to make a choice (if multiple). If this/these language(s) is/are not available on the project, a 'request language' button/link is available (in line with the "Adding new translation" setting of the component).
Describe alternatives you have considered
Having the pencil button as is present at Component>Language level. But I don't find the 'pencil' icon not a good indicator of the 'translate' action. I also thought about a menu entry, but that's not very visible.
The existing 'Translate' button at Component>Language level is another option (current path), but that's quite a few clicks away from the category/component page (and thus not very visible).
