Steam overlay is slow, almost unusable and if used after a while crashes the main, non overlay, steam window infinitely #11646

  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Fedora Silverblue 41
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
  • Steam Logs: steam-logs.tar.gz
  • GPU: AMD RX 7900 XTX

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

The steam overlay is so slow it is practically unusable, but if still insisting in using it for steam text/image guides it was also able to crash the main steam, not overlay, window infinitely, the store window would keep opening, loading and crashing infinitely leading to the game window constantly going to the background if trying to continue playing.

Disabling gaming recording has no effect on the slowness of the overlay.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Run resident evil 5 gold
  2. Open this guide in the steam overlay: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3155483377
  3. The problem only happened after a while of playing, the guide was consulted regularly during the game
