Is there an existing issue for this?

  • I have searched the existing issues

Are you using any gamescope patches or a forked version of gamescope?

  • The issue occurs on upstream gamescope without any modifications

Current Behavior

When I start gamescope as a gamescope session from GDM and enable HDR, artifacts like those in the picture are visible. This only happens when starting gamescope through GDM. Everything is fine with KDE, the Cosmic Alpha, and when starting from the VT.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Install gamescope-session-steam
  2. Start the gamescope session from GDM
  3. Enable HDR
  4. Open a Game

Hardware information

- Distro: Arch
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X

- Driver Version: Mesa 24.3.3-1

Software information

- Desktop environment: Gnome
- Session type: gamescope-sesson-plus from the AUR (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gamescope-session-steam-git)
- Gamescope version: 3.16.1-1

  • SDL

this has been an elusive bug for a pretty long time, and one I've unfortunately never managed to run into. It probably goes away if you sleep and then resume your device. I have seen reports of it happening with SDDM as well and on non-HDR compatible displays: ublue-os/bazzite#1761 which makes this even more vexing. Is using GDM a consistent way to reproduce this issue? (I've never touched it)

Thank you for the quick aswer. Yes, this only happens to me with GDM. I ran the gamescope-session-plus steam on the same PC in VT, and the problem does not occur there. Additionally, I tested the whole thing again under Fedora GNOME and got the same result. 🤔
